The board should be aware of state-level “Sunshine Laws” and other regulations that impact the way that nonprofits conduct their business, and should be able to articulate the implications of these laws for the organization’s day-to-day operations. It’s also beneficial for the board to have a clear understanding of the organization’s tax status and the implications.
